My name is Rachel Althuisius and I am an artist from The Netherlands. After working several decades as a commercial designer / illustrator, I decided that it was time to make autonomous work. My work draws inspiration from the decay and reborn beauty in nature. Inspired by works from people like Anselm Kiefer, Jay DeFeo and Lee Bae just to name a few. The colors which I like to create as I go, can come from a small piece of a classic oil painting to a piece of rock wet from the rain. I created some work on canvas but my favorite surface are wooden panels. I like to create layers on layers and to try to follow the natural shapes and stories that emerge. As the day evolves all these different layers of paint, sand, plaster and oils come alive and play with the light. Like small pieces of crystal found in a cave, there is a story with every piece.
